Brian Tracy, successful entrepreneur, coach, multi-millionaire, motivational speaker and author of 75 books has got the EVE-factor! Sitting in a meeting attended by about 100 people, I had the thrill of hearing Brian Tracy, one of my favourite business and personal development gurus, deliver more pearls of wisdom about how to be successful than most people could put in a whole book. But then he has written 75 books and sold 10 million of them. He has studied the lives of successful people and companies and he has been instrumental in creating success for thousands of people and companies.

I hadn’t been feeling well for a few days but nothing was going to stop me from hearing what Brian Tracy had to say. I’ve read most if not all of his books and he was the inspiration behind my new E-book (out soon!). Little did I know, I would be speaking to him on several occasions that day and would literally be rubbing shoulders with him for a few photographs. I felt like an excited and nervous 12 year old who had just met her pop star idol!

The Impact Of A Difficult Worldwide Economy

Brian Tracy reminded us of how the recession and the difficult economy is demanding ongoing education in personal development and business success. Whereas, it was a choice a few years ago, it has now become an absolute necessity. I too, believe that this recession is creating a shift in consciousness. No longer do we believe we are in a job for life. Just today, on the radio, I heard about yet another 1600 people that were going to lose their jobs. No longer do we believe that if we look after our employers, they will look after us. Recently a client said to me, “The very guys who I helped propel to the top of the organisation are now trying to push me out of the company.” There are more people who are going to have to work past their retirement because they can’t afford to retire. We now know that as long as we work for someone we will never create enough wealth to have the freedom we want or the future security we need. There are three resources that we all have: Time, Energy and Money. How we spend those resources is up to us – it’s a choice you and I make every day whether we are conscious of it or not. The EVE-Factor or the E versus E relationship as Brian Tracy calls it, is about how you spend your time. How much time do you spend in Entertainment versus Education? In the United States the average time spend in entertainment is 50 minutes versus 1 minute in education. In the UK the average time spent in front of the television is five hours a day!

As Tracy reminded us: Success is rare – Failure is automatic. The difference between people who are successful and those who aren’t successful, is in the EVE-factor. Successful people invest in themselves and spend a much greater proportion of time in education over entertainment. What is your EVE-factor?

The most amazing thing about this journey is what I’ve learned, the kinds of people I’ve been meeting, the experiences I’ve enjoyed along the way. The journey of success, according to Tracy, is not just about the goal – it’s about the person you become – more confident, more powerful, more mentally fit, and happier. I couldn’t agree more!
