Online Dating – A Lunch Date
I thought I would start video journaling my dates. I got the idea from my friend Sarah Cairncross at www.rawRRR.com who did this for one of her dates. Don’t worry all is above board – no hidden cameras. If my date isn’t happy with the idea then that’s fine.
Robert was all up for it, though. I thought it was quite funny how he went from super chatty to super shy as soon as I brought the cameral out, which suprised me as I knew he has performed gigs in the past. But I guess a lot of us get that way when someone sticks a camera in our face. He was a great sport. I think it actually made the date more fun and less “serious.”
At the end of the short video you can listen to a song he has written and sings himself – lovely!
“Our Short But Sweet Story”
Robert contacted me on an online dating website we both belong to. He made some wise crack about ‘too bad you live so far away.” I checked out his profile and liked what I saw so quickly responded: “It might be too far for a Brit, but not for a Yank.” We exchanged a couple of emails and then we both wanted to get on the phone and talk.
Robert was easy to talk to, we laughed a lot and it was just a fun conversation. We agreed to meet up somewhere halfway between where we both lived. Here is what it said in Roberts profile:
About Me:
I am a tall, dark, rugged, tactile and witty man who likes to stay in good shape.
I enjoy waling, cycling and the great outdoors.
I play the guitar, piano and sing and I love writing songs and music and perform quite often.
I am very creative in many ways and enjoy lively, intelligent, thought provoking and ridiculous conversation.
I love travelling . . . abroad or within the UK . .. Oh and I’ll just add that I hate football and all it stands for!
The video is just a few minutes in length. It’s no where near professional – rather a first attempt at using my Flip Video and then using Windows Movie Maker. In fact, it took me forever to make that movie – and I thought at one point I’d lose the will to live. But I’m learning and hope the process will become easier with practice. Hope you enjoy the video. Would love to hear any comments you might have!

Well done for persisting with the technicalities Susanne. What a brave man having his first date with you on video. He seems like a lovely guy. Hope the second date goes as well as the first.
He was a lovely guy and if you listened to his song at the end of the video, he also has a lovely voice. It was a fun afternoon – and I like having fun!
Only MY SISTER would do something like this! I’m both mortified for the sweet guy and proud of you! Good job, team!
(By the way, Sue, you were giggling a lot, too…so what does THAT indicate:)?? hee hee
He was brave, and I felt sorry for him at first,….thinking he must think you were a nut to do this. But only a moment with you obviously won him over; after all, even a crazy video date is worth spending time with you, Sue! He soon probably realized this…although I can only hear every other word, which is a tease because I wanted to hear the whole thing! I like that he said “less is more” – totally agree, and I think it is probably a well kept secret that most decent, worthwhile men think the same exact thing. Keep us posted
Ah you should know me by now! He was a great sport and I really enjoyed the afternoon. Giggling yes – it was fun to feel 12 again!
