Single on Valentines Day? Count Yourself Lucky!

Are you single and dreading valentine’s day?  Looking for advice on how to survive the 14th of February as a single in the midst of a world of couples, hearts, chocolates and romantic dinners?

A great article here from Tanya Martinenko in which she advises singles on how to cope with the dreaded 14th of February without resorting to drastic measures – and concludes with some good advice on how to deal with the day itself.

One idea she recommends is the singles party, which seems to be a surefire way to have an even better time than the couples you’ll see in restaurants throughout the land, trying their hardest to have a romantic date, including those couples whose relationships are just hanging on by a thread!

Those of you who know me, know that I like the idea of using your single life as an opportunity – even a series of opportunities – to take up new hobbies and try new things.  Not only does this help you have a more happy and fun life, you also become more interesting and attractive to the opposite sex.  Who isn’t interested in someone with an exciting life – just turn on reality t.v. to answer that one!

Martinenko recommends yoga, but why stop there. Beyond a new gym membership there’s a whole world of activity out there begging for you to get involved – and while you still have your health – there’s no reason not to. From a simple jog to achieving a black belt in some obscure martial art, single life offers so many chances to expand your mind and work your body, using the time that you simply wouldn’t have were you in a relationship, as constructively as possible.

So often I hear people in relationships lamenting the time they no longer have time to do some of the things they used to do or to do things they dream of doing one day when they have more time.

Valentine is day is on Sunday this year.  Why not mark this day as the first day you embark on your new venture – whatever it is.

What have you always wanted to try, but for some reason never got around to? A parachute jump, an ice skating lesson, a karate class, a whole day ‘museum hopping’ and shopping, attending a live sports event, driving a Ferrari around a track?  Whatever it is – sign up for it and use the day to either research it, or actually go out and do it on Valentine’s day and make it a day to remember.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
